Crochet Bobble Stitch

This is one of my favourite texture stitches .... its so tactile and 3 dimensional and when added to your crochet projects it just transforms that row!  So adding to my crochet stitches library I thought I would share with you how to v=create this lovely stitch ....

In this tutorial I am using Drops Lima DK yarn and a 4.5mm hook and working in UK crochet terms
but if your reading this post in the US I have listed the alternatives below:

UK .                                                     US

ss slip stitch                                         ss slip stitch
ch chain                                               ch chain
dc double crochet                                sc single crochet
tr treble crochet                                   dc double crochet
yo yarn over                                        yo yarn over
htr half treble                                      hdc half double crochet

Begin by making a slip stitch then chaining a number multiple of 2 .....

then into the second chain from the hook we are making a double crochet, then continue with dc all along to the end of your foundation chain ....

Then ch1 and turn ...... and into that very same stitch make 1 dc .... insert stitch marker if this will help you

into the next st we are going to make our first bobble stitch .... so yo insert the hook and yo and pull through ..... 3 loops on the hook ....

yo and pull through 2 loops only this creates a htr stitch .... then repeat this 4 more times into the same st so there should be 6 loops on the hook ..

yo and then pull through all 6 loops on the hook ....

to complete the st .....

then into the next st work 1 dc ....
repeat this all the way along your row .... so bobble st, dc, bobble st, dc etc.  Your bobbles will appear when you turn your work at the end of this row .... so if you are unsure what row you are doing the bobbles should always be facing away from you ... don't forget to make your last dc in the last st of the row where the scissors are pointing and where the st marker is .....

ch1, turn your work ... and tadah!!!! there are your gorgeous bobbles ....

then we are going to work another row of dc into every st along ....

then ch1, turn and we are working our next bobble row as before, use a st marker if this helps ....
so dc into very first st, then into the next st make your bobble and repeat dc, bobble, dc, bobble all along your row.....

don't forget that last st where your st marker is and finish with dc st

then ch 1 and turn and then continue with a row of dc st .....

and these 2 rows form the bobble stitch pattern ... so you can either continue on for the required length or simply just add what you need for your projects ...

Hope you found this useful and please check out my YouTube Tutorial on this stitch too!

Until the next time, take care and happy crochet!!
