Solid Granny Square Tutorial
Another of my favourite crochet squares is the solid square .... I just love the simple lines and the way the chain stitch corners leave a lacy hole all the way through!
So I thought I would add this tutorial for all you granny square lovers who may be looking for something different but is still fairly easy to accomplish ......
in this tutorial I am using a 4mm hook and Drops Cotton Merino yarn .....

I like to start with a magic circle but you can chain 4 and join to form a circle if you prefer .....
Row 1:
then ch3, then into the circle 2tr, then ch2, then 3tr, ch2, 3tr, ch2, 3tr, ch2 and then ss into top of ch3
Row 2:
Ch3 counts as 1st tr, then tr into next 2 st, then into ch sp work 2tr, ch2, 2tr, then work 3 tr along next side and continue around to end and finish with a ss to top of ch3.
Row 3:
Ch3 counts as 1st tr, then continue around the sides working 7tr and then in the corner ch sp work 2tr, ch2, 2tr and continue to last st ending with a ss into top of ch3.
Row 4:
Continue as row 3 but the sides will increase to 11tr and work the corner ch sp as before, complete the round with ss to top of ch3.
You can either stop here or continue on for more rounds ..... and obviously the sides of the square will increase by4 on every round so thats a good tip to remember when counting your stitches ..... and that is the very lovely but extremely simple solid granny square.
I must admit I am a bit partial to this simple granny square, I like the simplicity and clean look it gives and when you add colour changes to each round it transforms it again, so plain or coloured works so well.
I made my Boho Style Vest Top using this square and I was really pleased with the result.
